How does this come off??

What am I missing?? Shouldn't this thing slide off? I've removed the circlip....

As the bearing has been on the shaft for many years you'll probably need to use a puller
 
shaft to inner bearing is metal to metal.
housing to bearing is thin rubber.
Use a puller or walk it off tapping with a plastic hammer side to side.
 
Make yourself something like this:

I always find a small burr developed at the ring groove. Maybe a little rust too.
A little detailing on the shaft and the bearing slides right off.
 
Yeah...it actually took very little pressure with the puller...along with some light tapping with a hammer. I was just reluctant to put the puller on it......

I'm attempting to shave all the "column shift" stuff off...and replace stuff while I'm in here..
