how far down the "side" of the perch should i make my cut 1/2"?

the pic looks more like 3/4" or more

unfortunately while trying to minimize this cut it often becomes a try and it deal.

Mine required more than the cut in that picture.

In my experience, it doesn't hurt to be more generous in the cut, both vertically on the side and longer towards the oval slot for pump clearance. If there isn't enough it'll be rattling against the perch.

Last time I had the engine out I added a 1/4" plate that served as both a shim and reinforcement.

I cut mine out generously , put a washer ahead of the nut on the stud and pput a torque strap from the frame to the water pump housing . The mount is just a locator and the torque strap takes the strain . Easy peasy

Aright friends here is what I did. I made a generous cut as recommended then flipped the metal upside down and welded it back it.. I mocked it up on the engine stand and it looks like its gonna work... :) thank you for the replies gang

still be carefull the pressure relieve spring check ball retainer cap hits the k member mount , mine had a large hex . changed to small square one to keep it from loosing and leaking oil from the pump .

I would consider their torque strap mandatory, especially with biscuit mounts.

I think it might depend on the K frame you've got. I trial fit the engine and while it was more than the posted drawing it wasn't a lot more.
