Hey all,

Thanks in advance or any and all input on the following.

Just put a 318 LA in a 64 Dart. Im wondering what size AMP alternator will cover it:

HEI Conversion
2- 10" Electric fans
Will have a radio too , nothing fancy.
NO electric fuel pump or A/c

PS. We installed 6 gauge wire from the existing alternator
AND: We disconnected the ammeter and will install a voltmeter instead.

What do I REALLY need to sustain this application in AMP rating?

Thanks,
Mark

You don't need an ammeter. Voltmeter is whats needed. I can't remember the explanation I was given by the people at MAD electric but you are on the right track. Most electric fans draw around 20-22 amps. I would say contact the folks at MAD electric for any and all electrical concerns. Very knowledgable and familiar with the older systems and how to correct their flaws.

What do the fans draw?

This is going to be important info for us to have to get you the answer you want. I run a 105 amp Powermaster that runs twin Ford Contour fans, electric water pump, and electric fuel pump, plus lights and a stereo system complete with aftermarket amp and all that. Seems to be sufficient enough for all that. So consider everything else that has to run your electrical as well.

That is not much. I would recheck. Are those actually going to cool the engine?

If that is all, then even a 60-65A would be enough

Or did I misunderstand ? are they 20 amps each on 10" fans? Maybe I misread it. they are the ones sold by Champion Radiators.
