I got a wierd one. Not an A body but a G body daytona shelby. Its a late built 1988 model. Title and door stickers list it as a 1988, but it has an airbag. Out of the 75,000 daytonas of all type made in 1988, only 1,180 at the end of 1988 had an airbag. This was not shown in the brocure, or offered even as an optionn in 1988. Plus those publications were printed in 1987 for the 1988 model year. They were getting ready to make it standard equipment in 1989, so they added it into the production run at the end of 1988. The 1988 service manuals do not reference it, or how to do maintenance on a car with one. There is a FSM suppliment for it that i had to get.
The wiring harness on this late built 1988 is a carry over into 1989, and the computer is as well. I found wiring plugs in the harness for the driving lamps that would be standard on the 1989 shelby and ES in my 88 model. Driving lights were not offered in 1988. So yes, the factory does weird ****.
There were only 5780 shelbys made in 1988, and only 280 of em were special order daytona blue metallic. Mine being a turbo ll, T top, 5 speed, daytona blue metallic car with factory infinity ll cassete and slaved in CD player. With all the options plus the airbag, it might possibly put it as a 1 of 1 car. Its a 2 dataplate car because of all the options it has.
Rust free car, been in indoor dry storage since 1999. Sadly it sits in the corner of my shop piled high with boxes of stuff for my 67 cuda and my sons 69 cuda. Along with shelves full of NOS parts for its restoration. One day i will get to it.
