How many of you Like to go on cruises?

-
most of the cruises over here only goes to Finland and are an intresting alternative if you want to spend 24hours on a boat deaddrunk with only drunk people around you

Many of them have open itineraries now where you can go do the planned stuff or not. When we went My BIL and I would go to the burger joint or pizza place to eat if we didn't like the menu in the main dining room while our wives would go just to say they ate all that exotic crap. There were several bars with varied entertainment styles you could go to.There was only one day where we were required to follow the crowd.I'm a gambler and spent a lot of time in the Casino's also.Really looking forward to the next one.We went on Princess and were very happy with the whole experience.

I used to think that too... But here is the math...

I just booked myself on a 7 Day cruise in December for my wife and I.

From San Juan, Puerto Rico visiting Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. >> Bridgetown, Barbados >> Castries, St. Lucia >> Basseterre, St. Kitts >> Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We have a room with a balcony. Cost is right about $200 a day for the two of us. Any decent hotel will cost you about $150 a day minimum. But the ship includes food and entertainment for that price. So it really is cheaper to cruise. You can get cheaper rooms on the ship too. (ie no balcony)

Oh, and about the recent issues with ships. You have to remember, there are literally thousands of cruises every year. A small handful have had significant issues the last several years.

My wife and I have been on two and we sailed with Carnival it's the only way to go on a cheap vacation and the stops are nice, Don't waste your money on excursions there a way for cruise lines to make money,:burnout: you will love it

I have taken 12 cruises in the last eight years. Even booked a cruise for 28 family members on my father-in-laws dime, was a nightmare because of the amount of people but my family had a great time. The best part is you get to go someplace great see or do what you want to. Have a great dinner, see a show, play in a casino, party till you feel like going to bed, wake up in the morning at another great place and you got to take a 5star hotel with you. I have never been sea sick on a cruise ship and my wife has gotten sick one night but was over it the next morning.

You got that right, in my experience (travel industry), the people that hate cruises are the ones that have never been on one.
My first time cruise customers usually book another one within a month of returning. I can't remember anyone saying they would never do it again, that being said, it's not for everyone but there are lots of things in life like that.

I'm sure they are fun, just not my thing I guess

Nope. I think it would be extremely boring. I don't want somebody else calling the shots when I go on vacation. I want to do what I want to do.

I used to think the same thing. But I was wrong.

Being on the ship itself is like being in a Las Vegas resort. There is food available all the time, and different kinds of food. Even in the main dining room there are several different choices in each category. (main course, appetizer, etc) -- and most of the food choices is all you can eat and included in the price. On carnival, even room service is free 24/7.

Most ships also have additional dining options like Steak Houses, which are a small extra fee. (ie, carnival charges an extra $25 for the steak house)

There is booze everywhere. Pools, hot tubs, health clubs, spas, Casino, etc. There are also various "shows" available every evening. What shows depend on the cruise line and the ship, but for example, the carnival ships I have been on have a comedy club, a piano bar, a jazz club, and a few other choices of music, all available every night. Plus they have the main theatre where they do some kind of 'Main Show"

On the main deck, there often often activities as well. Dancing, Ice Carving, etc. I don't participate but they are great if you are a people watcher.

Point being, there are many things to do and you do what you like. There isn't a "schedule" you have to follow. They give you a list of what is available and when, and you pick and choose as much or little as you like. On our first cruise my wife sat on deck drinking with a few people we had met, while I played in a poker tourney. (I won btw)

--------------------------

Onto the stops.

Each cruise has different stops depending on how you choose. The next cruise we're going on is a busy one. We'll be in 5 ports in 7 days. Times depend on the particular port, but generally we'll be in each port for about 10 hours. You don't have to get off the ship at all if you don't want to. Otherwise, you come and go from the ship when you like, and do what you like in the port. Most people get into some kind of tourist excursion. Some book it through the cruise line, others book excursions themselves separate from the cruise line. There are excursions of all kinds, ranging from island tours to Deep Sea fishing charters.

Point being, the time is your own, and there is rarely a time that there isn't something to do if you want to. Boredom isn't really an option. For the cost, ask I said earlier, somewhere around $100 per day, is very good as well, especially when you consider what's included.

I went on one with my family down to Mexico with carnival, it was freaking awesome. That was probably at least 7 years ago now. I would really enjoy a cruise on Queen Mary 2 over to Europe.. :D

I bet you'll have a great time. I've been on three cruises. Royal Caribbean is my absolute favorite. Wish I could afford to do them more often than once every 4-6 years.

I liked the food on Carnival much better.

Well, maybe I'm weird, but I don't like going to gambling casinos, either. But then again, neither do I like watching any sports on TV or going to the movies. As a matter of fact, I don't have a TV because I can't stand watching all the dumb programs and the commercials. I find them very depressing.

Just about the only things I really like to do are going on long, hard rides on my bicycle or working on my A-body.

I don't like associating with the great, unwashed masses.

Obviously I'm not typical, but there you are.

a cruise vacation is the best bang for the buck. they are fun, food is great and very relaxing. my wife and I have been on 5 princess cruises over the years.
we are going on the alaskan trip later this summer.

Yup, we want to go to Alaska too.

Its too nice and relaxing for me. The first photo is the view from our balcony. It was soooo nice to overlook the water, drink a beer, and just relax. The second photo is from one of the ports. We found an exotic animal rescue group and they let us play with the Lion Cubs. This 'little" guy was about 4 months old.

Nina and I just returned from our sixth cruise in the last two years. Wow, what a great trip again! We went on the Carnival Splendor out of NYC to Cape Canaveral,Fl to Nassau Bahamas and Freeport Bahamas. Weather was great and so was the food. We didn't scuba dive this trip (Nina's foot was sore and my sinuses were chronically clogged). This 8 day cruise was only $249 plus $150 in taxes and fees and then they gave us a free $50 room credit on top of that. My wife says that it costs us more than that to stay at home.

Remember the Splendor? This is the ship that had the engine room fire and lost power in 2010 near California. We couldn't see any remnants of that disasterous cruise. The staff was fabulous and so was the food, again!

If you have never cruised, do it now so you will have time left in your life to do many more once you find that you like it!

I agree with whoever said there is a lot of the US I haven't seen. Would like to go on a cruise of the Great Lakes(does such a thing even exist?). Just not sure if I could handle not seeing land for days at a time.
