Changing my antifreeze.Have a 22" factory rad and a 340. I don't have any info on how many quarts/litres my system has.I am guessing about 18-19 quarts. need to mix 60% af to 40% water to get to about -50c.I have about 15 litres of af,I would like to be able to pour in the right amount and top it off with water so that the mixture is correct. How much Af do I put in? In case you were wondering the premix does not cover to a low enough temp (-37*c). 8)

How much anti freeze do you use Noel? :-D

..... a question for me on same topic.... is it bad to use straight anti-freeze .. because I would be using the same mix as you Dreno

What year car Dreno?
The 68 340 in a stock configuration says it takes 18 qts. With A/C add 1 more qt.
The 69 cars takes 16 and 16
The 70 model takes 15.5 and 15.5
The 71 models take 15.5 and 15.5
The 72 models take 15 and 15.
Hope this helps. By the way, pretty wife.

As cold as you are looking for there is NO WAY IN HELL I would try to mix it the way you would like. Mix it FIRST and pour it in, otherwise you are gambling on the mix

X2 what 67dart said, no matter what the temp or ratio, you are always supposed to premix it then pour it in. If you dont have a jug to mix, dump 1/3 your 4L jug in straight. Then fill the jug with water, mix and pour in.

X3 here, measure and premix before putting it in! Also it's always a good idea to use distilled water for the other part of the mix! No chemicals added or hard water issues like tap water.

Boy I'll say!!! Early '70's, stationed in San Diego, I thought a friend of mine was NUTS for using distilled water+antifreeze in his pu. I found out a couple-three years later when we tore it down to install a new cam. Inside of the water jacket looked like brand new cast iron!!

That's a good question.I don't know the answer but I would think it would be good to about -90c.I'm going with a 60/40 mix AF/water. 8)

Thanks for the response guys.Looks like it's the safest way of doing by premixing. I think I will use my bottled water for mixing,I believe it is distilled, thx for the tip nbd. 8)

I think it says on the jugs of antifreeze what mix is good to what temp. 70% antifreeze to 30% water is about max. The mixture of water and antifreeze is more effective than straight antifreeze, I'm not a chemist, but that is my understanding.
