Just changed oil in my 72 dart/318. Put 5 qts. in ran engine a few minutes waited checked and it is about 1 qt. over full. It has a short filter on it because of headers. I know 5qts. is correct amount for the engine. Should i drain some out? is the short filter why it is over full? It is a new filter,and pan was not dripping when old oil was drained. I use the dart for street driving no racing.

My cars have always been low with 4. I put 5 in it’s at the top of the last L. I leave it there. Kim
I agree, cause even if h used a long filter it won’t change much. Kim
It's because the don't sell 1/2 quarts of oil.( well maybe at lawn mower shops)
We had a lady with a 80's Dodge that we did oil changes for. She would bring her own oil.4 1/2 quarts
She told us, that's what is in the owners manual. She supplies her own because she didn't want to be charged for 5 quarts. Either way your ok. 1/2 quart over won't hurt a daily driver.
