How much TQ and HP can a 8 1/4 handle?

Need more info. What does the car weigh and will you be running street tires, drag radials, or slicks? All those factors make a huge difference.

I was told by a local Mopar guru that it would handle 400 hp. and about 400 tq. with an automatic trans. and less w/stick. My buddy and I kinda pushed that limit when we put a 360 in a short bed '85 Ram 150 w/ 4 speed o.d. 8.25 w/ 4.10 sure-grip. The 360 dynoed at 482 hp. 470 tq. and never hurt the rear but broke a couple of u-joints. :toothy3:
