How can i tell what my bellhousing is out of , such as v-8, six cylinder? Is there a number stamped somewhere I can reference to? My car is a 65 barracuda with 318 4-speed. I am having problems with the z-bar fitting properly Also would like to know if the forks are different from 6 to v-8. The guy I bought car from was a real cobbler and I would to get it back to stock.
Thanks, Stoke

If you take a pic. and post it,I have a v8 one sittin in the garage.I,ll go have a look and get back. Can you explain a little more what you have?

The bell housings do not interchange. /6 fits only /6. small block only fits small block. Big block only fits big blocks. Some are cast iron and some are aluminum.
Quick visual ID - /6 has starter about 45* from top of bell housing. Small block starter is about 90* from top and bell housing has slight flat on opposite side. Big block has starter at about 90* and is round.
There are 3 different size bearing retainers, so check bearing retainer OD and bell housing ID for a match.

The position of the mounting pad the z-bar pivot bracket bolts to on the bell housing moved in 72 a latter sb bell housings. If your z-bar is going up from the frame to the bell housing and angling forward you have the old style bracket and a latter bell housing.

You can get the proper bracket for about $30 from Brewers.

The z-bar it self is the same with the exception of the main tube being longer on a \6 z-bar than a small block. All the extra length is to the engine side so all you need to do is cut off about an inch.
