After having the wagon for around 8 months now...I FINALLY decided to go out and give the old 273 a valve adjustment.
I get out there, take off the drivers side valve cover....and I find a set of heads that are non-adjustable........So obviously the heads have been replaced at the very least. So now I'm trying to identify the rest of the motor...Can anybody let me know where the casting numbers should be on the heads and the block. I thought it was the original 1965 273 but?????

You should be able to see casting numbers on the heads with the valve covers off, look on the top of the intake runners, on the block you will heve to look underneath the car to find the casting numbers, one side will be a date code and the other the block casting numbers. Post them when you find them and I/we can tell you what you have. Greg

64-65 used the 080, 315 castings
66-67 used the 178, 234, 920 castings 920 casting is the best
68-69 used a 675 open chamber casting

It's possible that someone was in that engine and changed over to a hyd cam.

I put a 318 in my car, after I rebuilt it.

I reused the 273 Valve covers, timing chain cover and water pump.

It looks like a 273. ;)

I put casting # 302 heads on the engine, too. :)

block numbers are as follows:
forward intake runner#: 2843675
rear #: 12267
Can anybody positively identify what the motor came out of ? Or what the specs on the heads are?
