And now the ENGINE! WTF!!!

TOYOTA 1JZ 2.5 turbo... Sigh!

blasphemy! oh well, at least the iron is still there and not in a junkyard. eventually someone will want to convert it back to all american maybe.

Looks to me like he did something smart.

He want's to enjoy his American car but can't afford the $4.00/gallon gasoline. So you put a six'r or a four in your sled and now you can afford to drive it.

Who cares what the engine is when your body has style.....it is Malaysia after all.

I like it. Maybe he doesn't have access to small chevy parts......i know that's hard to believe...but he IS in Malaysia. I would just guess Toyotee stuff is plentiful. I bet it's a cruiser. I'd ride in it.

The 1JZ was developed in 1989 to replace Toyota's aging "Truck Engine" the 7M. The 1JZ has a short stroke and high rev limit (7500 rpm). It displaces 2.5 liters and has a compression ratio of 8.5:1. In stock form, the 1JZ-GTE is rated at 280 hp at 8.5 psi of boost. In contrast, the 7M produced 232 hp with 7psi of boost. The C12A turbos have a reputation for failing at high boost (>20psi) in unmodified form. They present the first true limit to the power the engine can produce.

I don't think it's that bad?? He's probably doing what he has to do to keep it on the road. It looks really clean and well taken care of. You know he's got to be the coolest guy at Sonic Malaysia on Friday and Saturday nights, and all the Malaysian chicks are diggin' him and want a ride in his sled!!

I've scene much worst right here in the good ol' U.S.A. Give the guy a break, just think of all the work and engineering that went into getting that going and on the road.

Well its NOT US$4/gallon here, its US0.50cent/liter (which is about US$2 per gallon)... Cheaper even than some US states :)

But our average household income here is much lower too...

This makes me wonder what the future holds for vintage cars. Obviously, the supply of oil will not run out in our lifetime or our childrens or grandchildrens lifetime, but it could become so expensive that only some can afford it. Or more likely government legislation outlawing any kind of gas guzzler ( SUVs, 4 x 4's etc). And when that happen, you think the guys with the vintage cars would be happy just watching them rot in their garages. I would much rather drive it than see it sit, even if it meant installing some fuel efficient turbo V6, or hopefully some way to convert our engines to hydrogen or ethanol. Also I agree with Bigricjie and Momoparman. I have seen much worse. Just look at these "donks" driving around with wheels that belong on stagecoaches. To lesser extend, the pro touring thing. Hate to see classic seats ripped out for some leather honda accord seats.

I like it, it's very different. I've always thought it would be neat to drop a modern turbo engine to an older car, but I was thinking more like an SRT-4 engine in an A-body or old Chevy 2 or something lighter.

I think it looks good. On the plus side it does not have a big dork wing and a fart pipe on it. Ya it would be nice to see a V8 in there but some people just don't know any better.

Other than the rims being kinda crappy (80's looking) I think its pretty cool. Ill bet that Toyota 6 pulls just as hard as a 283.

No doubt. I found that the 283 made 220 horsepower. That Impala obviously isnt a SS, so it wouldnt had the hi-po version. Perhaps might have only been an inline 6 for all we know. Yeah I would say the current engine might just have a little more jam than the engine that came with it from the factory.

And this time a Caddy (Also brightly colored)...

Nissan RB25 2.5liter turbo... and check out the lettering on the rocker cover LOL

:(

I cant believe how many liked it. I HATE it!!

Make that I hate it with a passion.

Picture a Demon with that same setup and I will bet you wouldnt like it so much.

Just my .02

I've heard many countries tax on the displacement of the engine, so this may be a way of still driving a classic car without being penalized with a gas guzzler tax.

Why does everything have to be "by the book" isn't what he did the definition of hot roding?
