This 00 RAM 2500 Cummins I just bought has power locks and windows, but no security alert in the dash, as does my Dakota (It has a fob) How do you tell if a rig should have one? This truck belonged to the seller's Gramps and the seller says he knows nothing of any fobs

I would think the door locks could be operated remotely with the fob. They work that way on our ‘10 RAM and 17 Caravan

I think you can run the vin on the Mopar parts website and get a build/option sheet. Your local Mopar dealer can do it for sure.

Call local dealer with last 8 of VIN. Ask how much a RKE fob costs. They'll tell you quick enough. If you were closer I'd hook you up with one and program it for cost of fob and free programing. If you get the P/N I'll tell you which one to buy from Amazon that'll work.
But if it has power locks, it likely has RKE.

I have heard if there is a lock cylinder in the passenger front door then it didnt have one from the factory. Not sure if that's true but the dealer can tell you from the vin

My mistake this is an 01 not an 00. My 99 Dakota has both door locks and a fob---with security.

^^Well it might!!!^^ Waiting for a shop manual, maybe that will provide enlightenment

Myfobs were missing on my 05 when I got it and only has a drivers key lock and electric locks on the doors inside. I bought 2 fobs on E-bay and had the dealer program them for just under $100. Without one working fob you can't do it yourself a dealer must do it.

Had the same issue with a 99 voyager. Bought it used a few years old & didn’t know if fob was lost. The guy at the dealership told me the non fob ones had passenger key locks, unless the fob was dealer installed.

Only reason I want/ "need" one is they are sure handy in crap weather, and in snow, you don't get water/ ice in the keylocks
