I'm sure this is stupid, but how do you use a Gear Ratio calculator? It's asking for RPM and MPH... is this Max rpm and max speed... or?

It should be ask at a given rpm in (4 gear for example) your mph should be .... Using this size tire

Stop starting posts apologizing for them being stupid. Its stupid to not ask questions. You can use the calculator any way you want. you can use different rpm to find out what cruise speed will be. like tire size x ratio x3000 rpm = 70 mph tells you you can cruise at 70 turning 3k on the tach. In your question input rpm you want to turn at what mph with tire diameter and it will tell you what ratio you need.

You put in the speed, the rpm for that speed and the tire diameter and it will give you the gear ratio, you may need to tell the calculator if the tranny has an overdrive gear ratio.

Most of the calculators will solve for any of the variables as long as you know the others.

Try this one, also.

You can use it to, calculate your 1/4 mile E. T. and the required horse power at the wheels that you will need, to cross the finish line at a certain speed, with race car suspension.

Just fill in the weight of your vehicle and move the throttle.

And, if you are racing, you can find what tire and gear combination you will need to cross the line at a certain RPM, usually right above your cam's power range.

Or check it out for cruising or what ever.

Hope I got this right and Hope this helps.
