This is going to be my street car
69 Barracuda.
340 9.5:1 compression
Gasket matched and bowl ported J heads (maybe Magnum heads) with 1.88/1.60 valves
Ld340 intake Eddy 600 carb
CompCams XE268 or XE274 ?

1-5/8" headers
2.5" exhaust with X-pipe

A904 with 2.77 first gear. 10" converter.
3.91s Itty Bitty 215-70-14s

I want a nice street car with good low end power and a very strong mid range pull.
 
If you went with the Magnum heads. I don't think you would want to go any bigger than the XE268. With the 1.6 rockers you would be getting plenty of lift. I don't think you would be able to keep those little tires on the car. They would be smoke pretty quick. Other than that , it's a nice little combo that won't put you in the poor house.

with 1.6 rocker the 268 would have .508"/.520 lift

the 274 would be .520/524
 
Adam, I'd think the 268 would be a good cam. If you are planning to run the Magnum heads, I'd up the compression if you can..They will help put off detonation, and give you more punch...Maybe .5 a pt? as far as a carb, I like the eddy myself, but second choice would be a Thermoquad. I ran a '68 340, with the High Energy 268 cam(no XE then), with a '71 stock intake, and 1.5/8 headers..The thing ran like mad, from idle up. And passed emissions for two years, with some special tweaks.
 
Hey Adam...are you going with the Magnum R/T or looking for a set of
remaned magnum heads? I got the remaned last week and they look really good.
 
Moper I think that XE268 will be the way to go. Although Dwayne Porter recomends the XE274 The 600 Eddy is working well on my car now so it will probablt get the nod.

Whitiey I may be picking up a complete 318 Magnum for $200
