I Am Thinking It Might Be About Time To Start Downsizing My Possessions

^^^^^ I took parts off the Hornet in anticipation of pulling the engine. since I did a few pieces at a time, they are scattered in the garage in boxes and containers. SHOULD have labeled them!

Fortunately, I own several Hornets, so I always have one around to see how they go together.

The older I get the less interested I am in owning a bunch of stuff, to the point I feel owning things is like a ball and a chain around my ankle.

I've heard if you don't use it for a year then you should toss it out. I have a car in the garage I've owned since 1995 and haven't touched it since 1998. Not tossing it out, but I should.

In the day it was easy to find cars and there were at least 5 junkyards close by. Today there are no junkyards and you are not going to find any cars sitting around behind houses, or on

county roads. To me the good days of the hobby are slowly getting behind me and I am sure I am not the only one feeling this way. Even going to the dragstrip is becoming more work

than the enjoyment I get out of it. One of the truly enjoyable things I like to do a lot nowadays is taking long naps. Gee, I sound Like I have one leg in the grave already. I suppose at

some point we are all faced with what to do with all that we own, and what to do with it. How have you downsized your treasures?

Tom
That's easy, I've never had anything.

Well, I fell off the wagon this week.

Just rolled the tote to the road and it only had two bags of trash in it. Not really sure what I did, or didn't do this week, but it's almost gone.

I did buy some King 440 main bearings, rod bearings, and cam bearing this week and that cost me $385, this might be the last engine. I can't afford it anymore.

I hear you!
Some people justify the old car expense as it is just a "hobby". I understand that. But most people feel IF and when they sell a classic they have put the work in and $ in, it should have a value!
I have steered clear of engine rebuilds since forever, and still look for a "freshed" engine or working transmission.

when I worked at the parts store in town, thought this was the greatest thing! jobber on parts, regular and performance. use of the machine shop: flywheel machine, head surfacer, hot tank, solvent tank, press, bead blaster. It was great. the Boss says he can't afford to build a race car the way he wants to, too much $$$. I thought that was crazy. well, I'm at that point adding up prices and I see what he is saying...although it only took me 40 years to understand that. should have, would have, could have. oh well!

There are some things in life that fall under the heading of a passion, some things are just a hobby, somethings rank as a love. Somethings are just something to keep you occupied till you kick the bucket, although it took that guy a lifetime of being bored to finally kick the bucket!!!
At least I have never been bored!!!!

Weather turned off cool the last few weeks and along with the rains we've had slowed the progress.

This past week I was ready to just get a 40-yard dumpster and call it quiets, but then the sun came out at Camp Granada.

Then life got better.

Getting ready to head out and see what I can get done today.
