ONIONS! I had never heard this!!!
PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu...

Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmer's story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia, and, needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put it into an empty jar, and place the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

This is the other note. Lots of times when we have stomach problems we don't know what to blame. Maybe it's the onions that are to blame. Onions absorb bacteria is the reason they are so good at preventing us from getting colds and flu and is the very reason we shouldn't eat an onion that has been sitting for a time after it has been cut open.

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

Ed, who was our tour guide, is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially-made mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the summer picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table, and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that, when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the ONIONS, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion.. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hot dogs at the baseball park!). Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions.

Please remember it is dangerous to cut an onion and try to use it to cook the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning.

i eat leftover raw onions darn near everyday and i cant remember when i was sick last but sometimes i dont feel perfect for sure

My grandmother and her sisters would cut an onion in half and put it by our water bucket , We drank out of a ladle and we carried water in the
house, but don't let anyone catch you drinking out of the ladle :D
As soon as we got to the the labor camp and picked a room we would clean the big one room with 2 full size beds for hours (most of the time us kids would get out running and playing) But yes, at the water bucket there was an onion cut in half, I forgot all about this till I seen this post.. Bugs and insects stings we always cut a potato down the middle and tied it to the bite, I dare anyone to do this, I had a bad wasp bite on my right check and remembered this a few years back and it took all the poison out and swelling was gon in about 30 minutes..:happy1:

I don't know about all that.I eat alot of unions fresh and left over and I haven't been sick in a long time(nock on wood) .Almost makes me want to cry.

I eat raw onion's all the time also, but an onion that has been cut open won't last very long around hear after it has been cut open, it usually
gets used preping a skillet or put in a pot full of chilly, beens or an egg omelet, but! I would not recommend eating a part of one that has ben cut and setting out for more then a few hours ..... If there is any onion
left over I/we cut it up and put it in a pickle jar, pickles don't last here very long and there is always one ready for onions

So is it a bad idea to use part of an onion and then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and put it back in the fridge?

Hmmmm, I wonder if cutting an end off an onion is good would dicing it be gooder? Was watching a food / cooking show last weekend and was curious as the woman was explaining that the process of cutting the onion actually shears molecules and releases chemicals. Those are what make tears appear.

May be something to it.

I don't believe the companies and biologist that are getting paid by
companies that sell and make aspertain.. I agree, staying away from folks that are sick! That's a given..
I will aways have my apple cider vinegar ready when needed, Have you EVER heard a dr say take a table spoon of it.. No,
they want to sell you the drugs that are giving him/her kick back.
I don't believe everything I read on the web. :happy1:
Not Plausible they say, but look at what is being sold on those sites:bball:

Every last bit of that post is untrue. Have you ever worked in a restaurant? Left over onions are saved all the time with no problems.

I can tell you guys about two things I have done recently which have had a tremendous impact on my health. I had been battling a chronic cough for years. After a while I attributed it to mold since I live out in the country and have farmland all around. I see mold even on my limestone rock driveway. After doing the doctor / pill thing which did not work I was turned on to hydrogen peroxide. My tongue had a white coating - note: when docs have you say Ahhhh as they look down your throat they are really looking to see if you have a fungus on the tongue. It means a huge payday for them as they get to prescribe cough / congestion pills for what is really a fungus infection. The peroxide I sprayed on my tongue and scrubbed off the white stuff as it foamed up. Look it up and what you use if 35% food grade diluted to 3.5%. I also started to nebulize with the 3.5% which helped my lung function quite a bit.

What really helped and finally cured the chronic cough though was eating "extra virgin organic coconut oil". I take about a tbsp a day which I warm up on the stove to make it liquid and swallow down. It immediately went to work. The cough was gone in a couple of days.

Look those two up on the web yourself. Amazing cures which make the medical establishment nada and thus they will not tell you about them. In fact, when I was first told about the peroxide it was from my haircutter who had IVs done as a cure for her arthritus. I went to that doc she got them from and he told me that the state had shut him down on those IVs a few weeks prior for no real reason. he had been administering them for years with only good results. As a side note he also had to discontinue IV treatments to purge heavy metals from the system - think mercury. That told me the peroxide works. He also told me that the nebulizer is about 95% as effective. I like that I can do it myself at home for very little cost - usually while I watch tee vee.

The AMA and the medical mafia want us to stay sick and spend moolah treating the symptoms. That is how they make their moolah.

I no longer have to take Nexium for heartburn.
The chronic cough is GONE.
My tongue is pink again.
My heavy appetite for beer is way dimished - bad IMO cause I love beer.
I have lost weight.

Also, snopes is probably some kind of BS website and I would not waste any time even reading their answers, much less believe them.

I am not a doc, this is not medical advise, YMMV. Do your own research.

I am posative it will be good, we and many folks do it with 0 problems at all.
Restaurants have turn over, and some even have a very clean work area, even the salad bars will let them set and go back to the fridge covered to be brought back out the next day. I agree.. to disagree, my grandmother and her sisters lived to there 90'es and in the worst of conditions
Is it myth ot fact :sad4: I do not know what an onion attacks and absorbs
But I do know for a fact that pills and drugs are a big market..
I will stick to my old ways... I still believe Vinegar and sunshine is a go to for most anything allong with water and a shot of quality 100% Tequila

Airwoofer is a HE. A HE that has seen great personal benefits with what HE wrote.

Stick to your pills and doctor visits then. And also believe whatever snopes writes, especially in regard to oboma.

From the OP

"I" is not me, just an email I got.........

and:

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser.
(Okay, I made an assumption on this one, but usually when one quotes a hair dresser it's a woman.)

So who said anything about you?

And as far as that goes here's your own disclaimer on what you wrote:

Now, when someone doesn't take your advice, after you put your own disclaimer on it and does his or her own research you take offense?

And who said I couldn't have a little fun with the email in the OP since we all know that the authority of all things is your local hair dresser?
