I made a small block low mount alternator bracket

A motor plate does make things a bit easier since it's all on a flat plane. I don't know if I will ever end up with a motor plate but it does solve some packaging problems.

Your belt is pretty short. Do you have a 2 groove crank pulley for the vacuum pump or a tensioner for a single belt?

Also, where did you source the adjuster turnbuckle thing or did you make/piece it together?

It has mandrels for the drive. The tensioner was made on a lathe, and isn't the one we used. We made another one. The short belt is very stable at rpm's.

Love the optional hockey stick for tensioner Rob!

Nice work Rob n Greg.

LOL only thing that tensioned was shoulders with some crosshecks clearing the crease! Hate that I can't skate any longer.

Greg, Nice work on the alternator mount.
Grumpy wouldn't have time to mount an alternator like that... too busy bithcin' about Mopars kicking his *** and lobbying for rule/factor changes to make the shitty vega relevant... EOR (end of rant)

I knew that! Can't run a vacuum pump off other accessories because of the pump ratio.

Part looks good.

Good to know about the belt. With the alt. in the stock position there was too much space between the pulleys. I could see the belt flopping just sitting there.

Notice too, that on early Hemi engine, there are all sorts of low mount alternator mounts available, to help uncover the top of the engine. Putting it down low though, it probably would be a good idea to put some kinda shield under it to keep water from being splashed into it if it's a street car.

It looks nice. Have you thought of making more?
The thought occurred to me but that's as far as it went. I don't have the desire to produce a part for consumption. I admire and appreciate those who do but I'm prolly not the guy for that. Besides, everyone can see how to do it here for free. Didn't cost me anything except two old brackets that were collecting dust and a few hours of my time.

I don't see a need for a shield, it's not that low. I've never seen a shield offered for the ones made for other makes.

i made something similar with a readily available bracket (think from Powermaster for the mini denso) and a flat Aluminium bar. No more lost belts for me, too! afaik from the top of my head the belt is 875 mm long. I think it is the 801 bracket, slightly modified. Could also be flipped to the drivers side.

Pretty cool! I looked at a bunch of Brand-X brackets and thought I could make one work easily enough. I just ended up doing it myself because I don’t like to wait.

Just proves that the thing that usually stops anyone from doing anything is themselves.
