While replacing a broken transaxle mount in a newer vehicle I stripped the threads. The bolt is a 4 inch hardened steel with tight threads going into the aluminum casing. The bolt holds the weight of the transaxle.

Anyone have any fixes for stripped aluminum threads?

If the Heli coil don't work out there's also threaded inserts out there.

Yes my garage is a non-kid friendly zone due to the overwhelming amount of f-ups I do when I pick up a tool. That is my cursed learning process, break twice-fix once (if I'm lucky). With plenty of pain and suffering in between.:eek:ops:

If I had any sense I would by a new Camry or something and be done with this venture but what fun would that be?

here's one other thought... if you stripped "female" threads, you can also try retapping with a larger size tap .. but you then have to use a larger size bolt. your car no doubt uses metric bolts. any good hardware or auto parts store should be able to get you the right tap and bolt. be careful when tapping aluminum - go slow and use tapping oil. before i tried this procedure, i would try and find out how much stress is put on this bolt when screwed into the housing. re-tapped threads may or may not hold up the required stress.

A regular heli coil will hold 50 LB FT on that bolt and yet we're gonna have 10 pages of total bullshit arguing about it.
