I was needing ideas on a good 360 build for my 1974 Dart Sport, thought about a 440 but I figured a small block would be so much simpler.I would love a 408 stroker kit but probably not happening on my budget for awhile.I'm looking to just have a good street car I can take to the track occasionally for fun.I'd like it to run mid to high 12s to a 13 second car that won't be so bad on gas that I could take it on an occasional 200 plus mile drive,so no 5 to 8 MPG,lol It has a warmed over 318 right now. It's got an auto tranny,8 1/4 rear(unsure of the gear ratio but I'm probably going to swap over to a 8 3/4 rear since I have 2 here anyway) I'm fairly new to Mopars (also have a 1973 Satellite) so any help would be appreciated.

Search around here for a while if you haven't already. There are tons of 318, 360, and 408 builds with the same build requirements all around here. Just takes a little looking. Welcome to the forum.

I'm actually wondering now if I might be as well off just stroking the 318,I wouldn't have to buy a cam, intake or carb. The heads I'm not sure of,I just bought the car and the guy claimed to have 340 heads and cam but I hardly ever believe anything when buying a car.Probably sales talk, but possible I guess.I have some 360 heads on an old engine in case I need heads.A 318 stroker might not be that expensive if I didn't have to buy alot of other stuff,so that might be an idea. You guys here with a 318/390 stroker, nothing to wild,What kind of power are you putting out?

I just got to thinking that maybe a 318/390 stroker might be a good idea, since I can keep alot of my engine components and not have to buy alot of extras.I just bought the car so I don't know alot about it yet but the guy claimed it had a 340 cam and heads but that very likely was just sells talk. But even if it was I have some 360 heads I could have reworked and cams aren't to expensive. To all the guys here with a 318 stroker(nothing to wild but just a nice 318/390 stroker kit) What kind of performance are you getting, compared to a good built 340 or 360?

Just build the 360 to 1973 340 specs, which is the same as the '74 360 HP. Nice, simple, will run on 87 all day make plenty of power in an A body, will idle all day in traffic with the A/C on and still run 14s well tuned. Maybe 13s with headers, slicks and a good gear.

If 1/4 miling, go for the 360 with the 340 cam from 68-71. Put on the 340 heads, which will need the 340/360 valve springs and rockers. I did a similar set up and used a 360 2bbl manifold and 71 360 carb. Got 18mpg and a good street performer.

Find a good running 360 magnum 93-02, install bolt-ons & have the cam re-ground from bullet cams, alittle gear & stall & you should see low 13s easy, I have a 71 dart thats about 3200 with me & pulls off 12.5s through the mufflers. It has a stock bottom end, RHS heads, Air-gap intake, 650dp, summit headers/mufflers, 904 with a 2800 11" converter, 3.73 gears, i shift at 5100 & it has 17 inches manifold vacuum, i drive it everywhere, its a gas hogg. Theres no doubt i could install 3.55s to make it more highway compatable & still run 12s. It also runs great on 87 octane.

Well, get a good 360 put in some kb-107 pistons, an XE274 cam, and port match a set of 587 heads to the intake, maybe home polish 'em a bit. whatever carb tickles your fancy and a good intake, then you have yourself a low budget animal. :-D

Here is my build.360 20 over,340 J heads 202 intakes,MP purple cam 280 474 ,LD340 intake, 600 Holley,headers,2800 stall, 323 gear, Timing 20 @ idle 36 Total, runs very strong from idle to 5500 cost or parts and rebuild 3 grand cheep power.

I like what Stroker says.

If the 318 runs good and strong already, just invest into a good cam and a powerdyne set up with a innercooler. You will run low 13's, tuned well will get High 12's and be street friendly all day long.

I just went to the powerdyne site and they offer nothing for old cars.

I hate Paxton and there service, but they do offer a kit for old carbed MoPar cars.

I was thinking powerdyne, But I guess it was paxton I was thinking of. You can go powerdyne if you go the magnum route.

That's definetly an idea I've been tossing around, maybe 340 specs with a few upgrades on the cam.I'd like to run a little faster than 14s though.I'm hoping to run 12.5 to 13.5,that's my goal anyway

I like your engine combo.I talked to a guy that has a '94 360,high mileage but runs ok for $300.Might be a good base for a rebuild.I have a mid '80s 360 already that's free but the newer one might be a better option.I don't know.

Forced induction is defintely out of my budget right now.
