So check this out. I have a 70 Dart with a 225 in it.

Problem: The car will not stay running, unless I HOLD the ignition switch forward about 1 millimeter towards the 'start' position. If I hold the switch, then everything's just fine as it should be. Any ideas/suggestions? I'm having a buddy come over tomorrow and we're just going to bypass the whole thing but I'd rather keep it normal if I can. Thanks for your suggestions!

I had something like this happen on my 66 once. If you've put in a new alternator or had a big jump start, you can fry the Alternator gauge. Install a wire across the two poles of the alternator gauge (to by-pass it). Try to start the car. If the car starts, there it is. If not, disconnect the wire and move on.

I'm interested to see which of us (if any) diagnoses this thing correctly. Good luck.

................Like RedFish says...............replace the ballast resistor........not the switch...........kim.............
