Congrat's Coyote Jack.

Since I bought my camp in 1990, we are 23 for 27 on getting moose to fill the tags we have gotten. That is not including the 5 bulls we took the last 2 years from my stands when I was asked to hunt out of a friends camp when we didn't get any tags.
Did I mention, I love moose hunting. LOL

:cussing: I've put every year since 1980 here in Maine, and never got my name pulled. I guess I'll have to move to NB. Give "em" lead poisoning Jack. :thumleft: Tim

That is great to hear Jack, you funally won the lottery, LOL , you know where the best place to shoot a moose is ?

BESIDE THE TRUCK LOL

I have been reading on moose hunting and ran in to this Pic.
I could not believe how big they are.
And how mean and territorial they can be.
Can you carry a side arm when you are hunting these giant's?
I bet Jack has a big freezer

And what is the largest moose you have taken Jack??.

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.jpg

So, from you experienced moose guys, tell me about the flavor of moose steaks..............

I've had good fresh Whitetail, Muley and Elk.........How's the moose compare?

Its a bit dryer But I'd eat moose over elk or deer anyday!!! Not to mention theres a pile of it!
Tell your friend CONGRATS FROM WYOMING!

The secret to getting a Maine moose is to buy a new car. Then drive it at night. Almost gauranteed to hit one.

You should apply for a N.B. license Tim. You would have a better chance at a tag. Non-res chances here are about 1 in 12. Not bad odds and better odds than me. They are costly though. $50 to apply and then $400 for the license if you get drawn. The guide is cheap though, all you would have to do is call me.

No hand guns allowed here Mike. As far as the biggest we have taken, it would be the one my brother shot 5 years ago. He was the second gun on my tag. We were walking back to the stand for the afternoon hunt and I could smell a bull on the ridge on our upwind side. My brother had never shot a moose, so I set him up in a stand I have and I walked 200 yards downwind of him. I gave one set of calls and the moose stepped out right in front of my brother. (100 yds). That moose had 21 points and weighed in at between 1300 and 1400 lbs. We got 752 lbs of meat out of it. I have a pic of it at work that I will post tomorrow.

He had a smile that I didn't think would ever leave. To date, that is the biggest moose shot in our area since I bought the camp. Here are a few pics. That's my brother Arden in the back of the truck, My brother-in-law beside the truck. That is the same moose. And my wife Phyllis getting ready to tow her moose out the same year. That was her second moose in as many tries.

Was watching a hunting show last night, they were in Canada and looking for Bullwinkle as well...they found a big one, 64 inch spread and a ton of points. They were hunting out of a boat and had to make two trips to camp with the meat.
Good luck and stay safe...

Ahhhhh, Jack, now you got me all itchy to go moose huntin' again - and it's only July. I've seen several of them within a 2 mile radius of my place in the past month. I'm drooling already. :)

Glad to help out Sid. LOL Just let them walk around another few months and get some weight on. Then they will be prime eating.

Right on Jack. I spent 13 yrs in Alaska and 4 of it was working for the Alaska RailRoad and as you have probably heard the moose get on the tracks in the winter to avoid the deep snow and when a train comes....well you get the story. Several hundred a year. I'd work the railbelt in the Mt McKinnely area and when a kill was made by the train we'd go and salvage the meat. Good stuff Manard. Meat is very coarse and very red but very good. I did kill one moose and a fair word of warning for you Jack. I will NEVER kill another one unless he's within winch cable off the road. When you pull the trigger the work starts. Those Alaska moose are the largest species known to man. What caliber of rifle will you use. I was packin a 7mm Mag. Go get em Jack Buddy.

My weapon of choice is a Remingington 7400 in .270. It is very accurate for a semi and with the 140 gr. handloads I use it is very effective. Yup, those Alaska/Yukon moose are the big ones. We don't grow them as big here. i have a trail to every one of my stands. The 4 wheelers really get a workout during moose season.
