I'm in the process of doing it right now. I am almost finished. Here is what I did.
1. Made sure the vehicle was admissable to Canada
2. Bought vehicle
3. Had paperwork FedEx'd to me, including PA. salvage title.
4. Faxed said paperwork to the U.S. border station I was going to bring the vehicle in at.
4a. Faxed the paperwork to a customs broker at the Canadian side and had him do all the paperwork. (You can do it yourself at the border but it is a pain)
5. Had vehicle shipped to the border area.
6. Waited the mandatory 72 hours from when I faxed the paperwork to the border station.
7. Presented the vehicle to the U.S. Customs border agents.
8. Crossed border and presented the vehicle to the Canadian side along with the paperwork from the broker. (This worked real good)
9. Trailed vehicle home.
10. Repaired vehicle, brought it up to snuff as far as Canadian standards, ie: daytime running lights, speedometer and proper stickers on doorjam.
11. Got a recall clearance letter from the local dealer.
12. Sent this to Registrar of Imported Vehicles and got form.
13. Had vehicle safety inspected.
14. This is where I am at now. Take vehicle to Canadian Tire for RIV inspection.
15. Take vehicle to local federal inspector.
16. Register Vehicle.
I hope this helps. I may have left something out, but I don't think so. I was helped out in this by my nephew who does it all the time.
