Indy Heads Quality/Performance

Has anyone had bad experiences with Indy Cylinder heads? What about good experiences? Please share
 
Lots of bad out there if you know where to look....

also, from what I`ve read, their dual plane big block intake needs a lot of filling and port work, just to line up w/ stock ports, cnc`d or not ! I`d like to have one tho.
 
I have a set of 360-1 on my 436 that have had no issues. My engine builder and another friend both have them as well,and they have had issues with leaks in the exhaust ports
 
Yes, A buddy had leaks in the exhaust ports, hydraulic his motor (piston filled with antifreeze) It took a year to get them to do an exchange. Sad part is,,,he had 440 source stealth's on the same motor for years with no issues, I bought the stealth's off him, he wishes he had them back..lol 440 source had some issues at one point but that seems to have been cleared up.
 
If you want a set, buy them from MRL...

Mike goes through them and cleans them up...
 
That's the key right there! Have a biz go through them and handle INDY since there customer service is ledgenardy! As in they basically give you the middle finger hard and stiff shoved into a dry dirty hole. Not even a picture of lube!

Just bypass Indy altogether and buy from an Indy dealer.

Better safe than sorry.



BTW and FWIW I pressure test EVERY aluminum head EVERY time I work on them, before and after, new and used. I have been burned by not pressure testing a new head. It had a leak from the factory. Imagine how pissed I was when after doing the valve job and port work and then pressure testing the head before surface and final wash and finding 1 intake seat on each head had broken through to water when the casting was originally machined!!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I was hot hot hot but since I ground on them I owned them. I had to remove 4 seats, TIG up the area under the seats, finish the machine work and then surface them.


I lost money on that one.

Moral of the story: pressure test EVERYTHING EVERYTIME.
 
Indy RHS heads purchased from Indy ready to bolt on . First hard run seized 3 valves ,guides were to tight Indy refused to do anything had to spend $600 to make them right.Lesson learned.
 
Wow, that's really unfortunate that a Mopar specialist handles their business in such a poor way. :/
 
As**oles. I have another buddy who spent major cash there and he got treated like crap and so did I for no reason. They seem not to care who you are what you want...they only want your cash that's it
 
I saw this thread when it was first created. And didn't wanna touch it. It's a can of worms. Indy makes some fantastic stuff for sure. Their service the second after they have your cash is known to be ****. And as a "specialty" mopar shop they feel they can bend you over. Everyone here has mentioned the various problems. I'll simply sum it up in a couple of anecdotes I've heard myself.

A guy went in to Indy with a list of stuff. About half way through it the guy behind the counter basically said "pick one more thing cause I'm only going back there once more". While there is already a couple thousands of dollars worth of stuff on the counter.

Another guy had a few thousand dollars worth of stuff to get. Went down to pick it up. Got a flat in the parking lot. Asked to borrow a floor jack. The answer? "We don't got one". What kinda high end shop doesn't have a floor jack?

Indy is what it is. It's been that way for as long as I've ever heard of them. My advice is the same as others. Buy through a dealer through them. They eat the ****. You get the diamond.
