I would like some ideas of how most guys insure thier car(s). Add it to their regular family policy or go with some one like Hagerty. And what problems,if any, have you had with claims. Thanks

How are you using the car? What condition is it in?
If it is a daily driver, I think you add it to your existing policy.

My son & I completed a numbers matching Firebird last summer that I have owned since 1971. We have a classic car policy on it with Metlife. An agreed upon value of $25,000. It was a cheap policy, don't remember right now exactly how much it was. Zero deductible. My son had a minor scrape at a car show and it was no problem. The down side is we are limited to about 3,000 miles per year. Must be kept in a locked garage, no driving it to work, etc.

I use Hagerty on my Mopar. I use the same insurance company (building, people, in town) that I have insurance with on my truck. (Travlers)

Make sure you understand the difference between "Agreed Value" and "Stated Value".

Thanks for that bit of info. Currently my Sport is just on my regular policy. I feel very lucky to have the ins. co. I have now. (The Hartford),and especially the adjuster. Car got beat up pretty bad,in the hail storm we had in Jan. Golf ball to base ball size. She agreed that a new resurface was required, and I had a check in the mail, within 2 weeks. Once it is done,I am going to have it appraised, and thanks to the above mentioned info., I'm going to have it insured accordingly. My main concern is not with my co.,but someone elses.

I use Hagerty on my Mopar. Less money per year with double the coverage and cash value...

Up here in Alberta there are a couple outfits that offer a Vintage Insurance for old cars, cheap at 300/yr, glass collision the works. Can't drive it more that 2500/yr, can't drive it to work only weekends and car shows, no racing of course, no one under the age of 25 drives it (my boys pissed about that one), and they recommend an appraisal by a reputable agent every 3 or 5 yrs, I can't remember. Mine is insured for the appraised value.
