They tried to make it a fair test, or did they? If you read the article without reading the spec sheets you'd never know that the best accelerating cars [Firebird & Barracuda] had 3.55 gears & the much slower Camaro had 3.07.

You didn't read the article right. Stock 396 doesn't make 500HP. Stock 307 makes 500HP at 17000 RPM.
What thought was interesting they put the 340 against the big blocks, apples to apples they should of tested the 383. I'm glad they didn't because IMO the 340 makes for a better balanced and yet it holds its own!
