The movie, Destination Tokyo starring Cary Grant has an interesting prop snafu that I happen to catch. If you’ve seen the movie it’s the part where they put ashore a covert team that was to set up a beacon to guide the Doolittle raiders Tokyo bay. The interesting part that I caught was the shore party was carrying their standard issued .45s but also what looked like lever action Winchester rifles. I looked it up and the Navy used the bolt action Springfield’s as well as Thompson submachineguns. Only mention was the Winchesters were issued the civilian volunteers that patrolled the shoreline along both the Atlantic but the Pacific as well. Kinda interesting

If the Frogmen were anything like they are now they could have had liberty to carry non-standard arms. In my days in Naval Special Warfare I always made friends with the armorers. A perk was being invited to special range days where the fun guns needed PM, sighted in, and basically just to have fun.
