I've been on other sites that don't allow new members to post for 24 to 72 hours.

Gives them a bit to figure out navigation, etc

Would that help with the bot and scammers ?

I wish we had that here. Many of the new member ads here are in the wrong places and it's just because they haven't figured out how the site works.

I am administrator at a non automotive web site.
When I approve a new membership I send this.

All advertisements are to be placed in the Marketplace Forum's Only.
Please do not post ads in discussion forums. All advertisements posted in the discussion areas will be deleted.
To participate in the Marketplace (classifieds) forums at (incert web name here) you must have at least one post.
All Advertisements require a Picture, Price and General Location
(NOTE) Premium member's have access without posting
This rule was added to weed out scammers! This gives the membership a chance to get a feel for you as a board member before they decide whether or not to buy/sell/trade with you.
Please post a introduction thread. We have a forum dedicated for new member introductions.

Private Messages are locked to all new user's with a zero post count, for the same reasons listed above.
Replies in advertisements are not allowed. All comments, questions or offers are to be by PM only.
To send a message:
Right click on the member's user name, and click start conversation.

Thanks.

I was on a forum that didn't allow you to post in classifieds without a picture of the item with the current date in it. Some forums of course only allow you to post in classifieds if you are a paying member.

New members get a PM from me upon joining.

I'm on a couple of other forums that are far more restrictive with their rules, might be why there is far less traffic on them. I posted a question about a drive ability issue with my car and got a somewhat nasty response from the moderator about the way I titled the thread.
