Is ECU going bad?

I have a 72 340 with the ECU mounted on the factory drivers inner fender. My problem is the wax that seals the electronics is oozing out from under the unit. But it still works fine. Is the Ecu going bad? Should I replace it? Any help would be helpful. Thanks!

90% of them do that, I have good ones on the shelf melting from the heat, but I'd toss a spare in the trunk anyway, that and a ballast resistor, coil and voltage regulator.

same thing happened on my 83 van bought a spare one but never had to use it

Always carry a spare unit. You never know when one will go.
