Is the 90 Degree Oil Filter Adaptor Required or Optional On a '65 ABody?

I was wondering if my '65 Formula S needs the 90 degree oil filter adaptor for clearance or if I can use the straight spin-on oil filter? I might need the 90 degree adaptor for another project (1972 BBody) I am working on. Thank you.

Note: When I installed the 2 1/2" TTI exhaust (factory manifolds) on the '65 Formula S, the TTI instruction sheet had me trim down the bolt head of the 90 degree adaptor, which did not seem necessary to me, but I did it.

90 degree oil filter adapter was standard on a 273.

I have the adapter now on the '65 the way it came; question is whether or not I can remove it and spin the filter directly onto the block without the adapter without clearance problems with the stock exhaust manifold.

In that case you need the shorter filter. I turned my adapter with the filter forward so I got more space.

TTI 2-1/2” x pipes on my 66’ Barracuda with v-8 and factory 273 manifolds.

I had to put the adapter on to fit the Napa gold 1515 full sized filter. That’s the equivalent of a PH8a. it’s freaking tight.
