I have a 2003 2.4 L Mitsubishi Eclipse with a bad manual transmission and the only transmission I could find in my erea is a 3.0L .Could I use a 3.0L transmission?

I can not answer the question but……
A 3.0 from a Chrysler?
What year, make & model did it come out of?

Can you get a front view of both? As in where the clutch/ flywheel would reside. What you'll see is the bell housing patterns are different. For EG, the starter for the 2.4 is at about "2 oclock" and for the 3.0 it's at "5 oclock". So that would be a no.

This may sound like a stupid question what if I change the bell housing of both transmission, will that work or are the gears boxes too different

You see what I'm blithering about, starter location AND that's not exacly a removeable bellhousing. It's the front portion of the trans.
