I am looking at a 8.75 chunk, 3.23, cone type posi ,742 case with new bearings and pinion seal. Asking price is $475.00. unit is very clean a suppose to have been professionally set up and is ready to run. Posi unit is not new but suppose to be in good shape. What do you think?

Thats a decent price, or in the ballpark I should say...I got my 742 3:55 Clutch type sure grip for 400 bucks...

If it is as good as it is supposed to be, that is about the right price IMO.

I have never heard of a cone type posi coming in a 742 case, but they can be put together easy enough. The cone type, comes in a 489 case, and is not supposed to be rebuildable.

But I think some people have figured out how to get some more life out of them, by machining some of the surface off, or something like that.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping it was a clutch type myself. I am going to check it out for myself shortly. If it is a clean as the pics I have seen I will probably get it.
