Is this an A-body precursor?

-
No, for two reasons. One, the Valiant and Lancer were already in production. Two, if you have ever seen one of those in person, it is quite large. It is definitely not an A-body platform. It's more like a C-body 2-door. Ghia was a coachbuilder that built show cars on Chrysler platforms for many years — as such, their styling concepts had an influence on Chrysler production cars — sometimes subtle, and other times more obvious. During the 60s it also produced a run of exclusive luxury coupes based on Chrysler components. After Frank Sinatra bought one, they became a trademark of the Rat Pack. There really is no equivalent today for this kind of hand-built low-production luxury performance coupe, but the market segment would be similar to a Bentley Type R or perhaps an AMG Mercedes. Not quite as out there as a Bugatti. or as performance-oriented as a Lamborghini or McLaren.
