Hi guys,

I own a '73 dart sport.
Now I am looking to buy a floor jack for it, but I'm not sure about the height. The goal is to work on wheels/tyres, torsion bars, shocks etcetera.

The jack I'm looking at now has a height of 4.72" at its lowest and 18.1" at its heighest.

Will that be a jack with wich I can get the car high enough?

Thanks for thinking along!

JJ

Is your Dart Sport lowered from factory at all? Or have or plan to have a front spoiler?

The minimum height on that jack is pretty tall. It won’t be an issue with a factory height car and no spoiler, but it wouldn’t work for my car.

I use a low profile jack that has a minimum height of 3.25” and a max lift of 19.5”, and it’s nothing all that fancy.

Remember too that you’ll need some sturdy jack stands as well, especially if you’re planning on raising it the maximum (and some of those tasks you’re talking about may require that). I don’t use anything smaller than 6 ton jack stands for my Duster, it’s not about the weight but rather the larger footprint for the jack, as well not having the jack stand fully extended. When I lift it all the way up to drop the transmission etc I use 12 ton jackstands.

Thanks!

As far as i know its all factory exept the exhaust and some hi-jackers in the rear. The car is a bit low on the front, but that's possibly because the previous owner lowered the ride height. Will be looking into that.

I got some jackstands for 3 tons each. Guess that will be enough if I use 2 when I raise the front.

I went for a long reach jack, as I just don’t want to be even reaching under the car when jacking, the one I bought had a good combination of a long chassis with a dropped arm section at the front. The previous owner had dropped the front torsion bars and had 24” diameter fronts on so I couldn’t get the jack under the K member until I’d lifted the suspension a turn on each side, but once I’d given it a good bounce I could get it under. One thing I bought that a tape measure could have told me not too, is a crossbeam adapter on a trolly jack, it won’t fit under, I had a clever idea of using it to support the axle tubes not the diff housing, but it won’t go past the petrol tank.
