My current rear end housing is from a 65 B-body. If I were to narrow the rear-end to stock A body specs, will the current b body axles work in the narrowed housing? I will be taking of just over an inch on each side.

You will have to shorten the axles as well. They almost touch in the middle.

With that body and that axle width don't the mustang offset rims work good.

Don't cut a '65 B-body rear axle, sell it to a Duster/Demon owner. Find a C-body or truck axle to narrow and get some new BBP axles.
