Hi Folks

I was reading the factory service manual regarding power steering fluid on a 1971 Demon. It says "Caution...Do not use transmission fluid". Back in the 80's we used Dexron all the time with no apparent ill effects. Was Ma Mopar just trying to sell "power steering" fluid or is there an actual reason for the "Caution" reference?

Thanks FABO

I don't understand the "CAUTION" warning either. We used to top off P/S with ATF all the time with no problems. Only reason I could think of is that you could tell a lot easier, a regular P/S fluid from ATF if one was leaking.

Seal material. Wrong fluid can do wonderful things when two fluids meet!

Here's a brake master gasket for example that was topped with the wrong fluid. Wish I could find a similar miracle for my pecker...

They were talking about not using Dexron. It has detergent in it and will foam in a hydraulic pump. Type F is hydraulic oil with red coloring.

LOL.....I bough a Chevette back in '85 that someone did that to.......Ended up replacing everything as the stuff turned to jello. I actually parked my Demon back then to take advantage of the Chevette's gas mileage while I was in school.
