I have a 67 fish parts car that had a 318. I also have a 71 Demon that was a drag car which had a BB and used motorplates to mount it. I want to put a SB into the Demon so I pulled out the K frame from the 67 fish so I would have the motor mounts.

The first difference I noticed is the 67 only has a lower tab to mount the idler arm and the arm mounts on the bottom of the tab, vs a double shear arrangement on my 68 fish and the 71 Dempon that has a box which holds the idler arm between the top and bottom in double shear.

Is the 67 version adequate for drag use? The car will hopefully do little wheelies on launch. The car has the inner fenders removed and a bar supports the frame to the firewall and the upper shock mount is supported by the bar.

Are there any other things to consider? Will I just have to use the 67 idler arm or any other steering parts need to be converted? Does anybody make a kit to weld on an upper tab so the later idler arm can be used?

For what it costs I would up grade to a newer K member. Way better design and idler and pitman arms are a lot cheaper.

cut the upper tab off another K member and weld it in place. the 67 one tab K members were known for a lot of flex with the idler arm. it was a poor set-up, and the early idler arms are expensive so I'm told. I have done this , and it worked out great.

That is why I asked if anyone sells a kit to do that. The idler arm mount on the newer models looks to be one piece. I don't want to cut up the Demon K frame with the mounts removed if I can help it. Looks like I maybe took the rolling parts car apart for nothing.

Yeah, the 67 in single shear just looks like trouble and I will find a way to change it.

Hopefully without derailing the original post. Are the later 73+ "A" body K frames the same for a slant 6 and a small block V8?

The 67 idler arm didn't use a bolt through on the K member end. That Idler arm has a ball stud on both ends. It was the weakest link when banging wheels against curbs though. I dont know what difference that would make in drag racing. Since you do have another K as example you could fabricate to suit whichever idler arm you use.
