Is there a difference between the 2bbl 318/904 kickdown linkage and the 4bbl 318/904 linkage? If there's a difference can the 2bbl be made to fit the 4bbl?

Thanks!

When I went to a 4v carb, the only thing I changed was the rod that goes from the carb to the pivot, and the throttle cable bracket. Same combo.

The throttle cable brackets are slightly different. One has the mounting pad for the cable verticle, the other is horizontal and there is a slight difference the fore and aft placement of the pad, but you can use the same cable.

You may also have to extend the rod from the throttle bracket to the carb. I would get some hex stock and some threaded rod to use to extend it to reach.

You can also use the same kickdown linkages for 904 and 727 transmissions as the position on the trans is the same...

Yep, the brackets are the hard part.
I had to mod my throttle pressure rod connection at the carb because I have a stupid Edlebrock, but they sell a conversion bracket for them.

Hmmm............. I just use this, it worked fine, is that what you are talking about?

I've got an edlebrock 1406 if that makes any difference.. Most of the stuff y'all are sayin sounds like jibberish!! Lol I'm sure it'll all be helpful advice once I can sit down n really read it over n study a linkage.

Caleb, I'll go snap a couple of pictures to show you what's on mine in a minute.

It does matter, and of course used 4 bbl linkages sell for more. Even with that, if using an after-market intake (Edlebrock, ...), it is often taller and doesn't work perfectly with the factory 4 bbl linkage. Many use an after-market cable system from Lokar.

That's the one.
Some of the rods don't have the spring attachement point and the spring connects to the rear pivot of the rod.

need 4 barrel throttle bracket...longer rod ....and correct carb adapter...for eddy or holley...

the throttle brackets are on ebay or mancini

Hmm... Well, maybe I'd just be better off lookin for a lokar? Especially since I'll probably swap the intake if this motor ever comes out. I've got a 340 torker II on it now, not the best intake for my use but it given to me so I threw it on.

If you get the 4v bracket and the longer rod, no need for the Lokar. The factory throttle cable will work just fine.

Ultimately it's your choice, AND I would compare prices. You might get lucky and find the bracket and rod fairly inexpensively. If you can't, then the Lokar might be the way to go, I have not priced them but I think they're kinda pricey.

Bruce, by throttle cable you mean the cable that goes from the gas pedal to carb correct? If so I already have that installed. But if I go with the factory set up I'm gonna need the 4v throttle cable bracket, throttle return bracket and spring and all the kickdown stuff. Reason I ask about the 2v kickdown is last time I was at the pull a part there was a 73 valiant there with all the linkage stuff still on it

The throttle cable (yes from pedal to bracket to carb) that is already there will work. I didn't change mine. All I did was acquire the 4v bracket, longer rod from pivot to carb and the 1481 adapter. Switched it over and vroom!

I didn't change the throttle return bracket( where the return spring attaches).

When I got the car everything from the intake up was gone other than the throttle bracket and that thing don't fit right with the 4v. Hopefully I can get down to Nashville Saturday and get all the brackets n linkage off the valiant. Need some other stuff off it anyway. Wish they'd just sell me the whole thing!

Huh! Lookin through your pics Bruce, I realized I DO have a 4bbl throttle bracket! It just doesn't line the cable up right do to not having the adapter!

If you do decide to go with Lokar, be forewarned that in order to use their kickdown cable kit, you must also use their throttle cable kit.

I think I've bout got the kickdown figured out now so I'm just gonna get the linkage at the pull a part Saturday n put that on.
