Kickdown Question

Sounds like the geometry is off someplace. You could put a shorter arm on the trans, but he problem is probably elsewhere on the linkage; like incorrect bellcrank. No way the rod can be longer than FSM calls for and still have the carb open all the way.
 
Here are the instructions I followed yesterday to check/adjust it at the lower end.
Step #7: when the rod is held upwards against the stop it is about one turn longer than it needs to be to snap directly onto the linkage. But, the shorter the rod is, the quicker the upshift. The current length gets me 3-5 seconds in passing gear before shifting back to top gear.
The shorter the rod, the less time spent in passing gear.
I am 100% certain that I am getting full throttle when pressing the gas pedal.
