Lame sellers

-
I have encountered a few sellers that just don't respond or tell me that they are too busy. TOO BUSY!? GO F**K YOUR SELF I SAY TO THEM.

I understand that some people have busy lives, but if some A**hole can take the time to tell me that they are too busy, then they can answer some simple questions.

I guess while I'm at it, I'll call out the F**ktards who ask way too much money and lie about what they are selling. You see, I like Ford Broncos, I've owned two of them, but every time I see a 90's Bronco for sale I want to throw up. I'm sorry, they are not that rare, SO THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE A 30K-40K ASKING PRICE FOR A HIGH MILEAGE TURD WITH LIPSTICK!

Feels good to let that out.

So true...customer service is key on the seller and patience on the buyer these days.

And then there are sellers that get mail that asks for cost and time and this and that and you respond and have an hour or two into a sell to get a response like.

Money is tight, Don't have time to deal with it. Not going to work with my setup.

All after clearly putting out there what you have for sell.

The last damn thing I need to hear is how much will it cost to ship this and then to hear, I can't afford it or money is tight or it won't fit.
One thing I realize is people are strange didn't used to be so much but the internet has "brought us all together"

I didn't read back thru the whole thread, but what bugs the snot out of me is people who post something for sale and rarely come back on to check for replies. I replied to a sale ad and sent a PM to seller on For Trucks Only........crickets! Seller hasn't been back on there since he placed the ad on 1-10-25. :BangHead:

I've been that guy, but never intentionally. I've had wanted ads that people post in, but if they don't hit reply or send a message....I don't check them very often.
Sorry to anyone I've done this to.

He placed the ad in the future?

(Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

.....and I get it. I'll even admit, I'm a lame buyer. Money has never been our strong suit. Sometimes I see something I need and I'll ask what the rock bottom price, or ask if they can wait till I get paid. But I let them know that UP FRONT, so if they agree, then it's on them to honor that agreement and on me to pay when I say I can.....and I do.
Your credit rating is AAA with me .

Or.... I take the box to the USPS and she measures it and weighs it, gives me the cost to ship. I get the buyers $ and take it back to the USPS!!!! the next day and the same employee measures the box and says "Its is too big for us to ship!" So I drive to the UShip It kind of place and it costs me........... i am in the hole!!!!!

So after couple weeks of waiting to pick up a Sioux valve grinder and table this weekend at 1:00.. I got a message just after 10:00 p.m. last night saying that they were no longer handling the sale and I had to contact somebody else with the contact information attached. This is a good story with a good ending at least ...I contact the phone number of the party handling it and I come to find out that this was a grandfather's estate and the executor grandson was handling it but had allowed his uncle and Aunt to arrange a lot of sales for things. There were a lot of cars involved and I guess there was an agreement to let the aunt and Uncle take a 63 split window vette and a 72 ho Trans Am.. fast forward to now ...after the vehicles were picked up and transported to New Mexico.... that same uncle sent a $40,000 bill for the transport and whatever the hell else to the grandson. I deduce that he was literally going put them in a shop to get them fixed so he can flip them and was trying to get the estate to pay for it LOL. The grandson had his lawyer send them a scathing letter shutting it all down, still let them keep the cars.. but basically told him **** you on everything else and the deal still stands with me. It actually got better, because the guys now going to transport the valve grinder to his house in Temecula which is about 45 to an hour closer to me. Everything worked out and I should be picking it up tomorrow.

If you ask me what my rock bottom price is (no dicker sticker) I will ask you what is the highest price you will pay  Too many people ask what the rock bottom price is and then try and negotiate down from there. Just make an offer. If people's feelings get hurt too bad.
A buddy of mine always had trouble buying and selling. I've never seen a guy claim he got shafted so much. I can see why. He always had expectations that he never discussed with the other party.
I dont know if it's a generation thing or what, but when using fakebook I bet half the questions I get are "50% of asking price"

And that's how they start the conversation

Where I'm from, you don't start to haggle untill after you have seen the parts in person

Those are the bottom feeders. I knew a guy who would do that with old Jeeps. He would find people who were desperate, buy it and flip it. Lately I've been getting more scam inquiries than anything.

My usually response is to up the price if they do that

I am on the seller and/or buyer end. Every state is different as to prices, supply of cars for sale, all variables. But people on FB Marketplace seem, in general, to be a group of their own. And it depends if the guy really wants to sell his classic. Screw selling parts on there.

My guess is here in Tx. probably 95% of all cars be they either projects, restored to some degree, and everything in between is priced 2 to 4 times market value. Too many overpaid NOT hungry sellers! Sure that is a seller" tactic and many times just uninformed sellers, or sellers that do not care if it sales or not.
An easy gauge as to market value is "save" a particular car listed for sale on Marketplace so you can go back in a few weeks, months, or a year and see IF it sold. That does not tell you the price of course. But if it did actually sell.

If I inquire about a car, and it is obviously overpriced, I try to ask in a nice way if negotiable. 95% if the time, the seller screams "Not dickering till you come look" and I reply man you are 4 hrs there and 4 hrs back. If it had NO issues, it is overpriced for me, maybe not someone else...maybe. Are you firm?

Sellers on MP hate to answer questions. If so, I walk.
If I have one advertised it is NOT far off fair market value, if any. Probably well below. So I just say, I honestly believe you will be well satisfied with my description /pics, please come look.

I have NO desire to try to sell parts out of my place. I had several good engine cores last year, priced below most any other advertised, and it took months to sell them.

The market on classic cars has been well depressed for several years. (Mecum means little.) Maybe different back in the N.E. I have sold some pretty nice "common cars' to guys 500-1000 miles away because they were priced well below anything they could find in their back yards. They drove after them or paid shipping.

High $ guys buy high end cars, and don't worry about a transport $. They don't buy cars off Marketplace.

You guys are making want to list some parts for sale.

Don't lowball me.

I know what I've got!

The sad thing about this is that many people think it's OK to throw out a 50% offer because they see some A-hole on TV do it. I call it getting "gas monkey'd". If an item is unreasonably priced and 50% is the true market, then yeah it's not out of the to offer a low amount... except...

Even if the part you have is really fairly priced at the current market. Doesn't matter, half price offer incoming, after the buyer reads a 5 minute dissertation about how bad they need the item. LOL.

How about interested parties posting "pm sent" so you know where you are in line for a purchase? Tons of back door buyers on here who don't believe in courtesy or unspoken protocol for buying.

Oh but the experts say it's not a Serdi so it's a POS. <insert eyeroll here>

Sure, but if I list something 4times the value, your not gonna talk me down

Fact remains, we can discuss final price when we meet in person, but if I have something listed at 75 dollars and you decide to come see me, you should be prepared to pay 75 dollars

That is why IF the guy has something priced at say, 4 times the value, I NEVER even call the guy. I bookmark it maybe, maybe,,,,and IF reality sets in, and he drops the prices to at least fair market value, then I can call the man. I see project cars many times have a price drop of 400% in a couple of weeks, because someone educated the man on reality. Then I can make the trip. If I want to pay say, twice fair market value, and that is what he feels it worth, then IF I make the trip, I understand I might well not be able to negotiate a reasonable price.
Everything is worth what someone will pay. But one sale does not establish fair market value.

I see dozens of 4 door non running partly parted out "projects" on FB every day wanting some idiot price for what is to 99% of the people nothing more than a crazy priced PARTS car. No one is their right mind will pay such for such. But either these people are ignorant (MY guess usually), or they see another similar car and duplicate that price or more, or on bad dope!

I have been on here for years and the BS never changes!! You will NEVER get rid of greed. When I first got on here we helped some”young guns” but found they were selling the parts to others. One was even so bold to use his sickness to get parts and also sold to get his”dream car”! I sold a steering box to a guy and we had talked on the phone at great lengths on its condition. He made a post never mentioning our discussion. But the members fell all over themselves coddling him. This type of discussions only proves to me that the decision to never post parts on here is well founded

Yep, there's well known long time member here does that ALL THE TIME. Buys ALL the 69 cuda ****.
He bought 8 cheesy little brake pedal bushings and I asked if I could buy one from him....nope I need them all. BS you flipping clown.

And God forbid you need distributor stuff....same frickin thing another member snags EVERYTHING to fund his drinking problem.
**** em.

Usually, that's a red flag. We had a member here who was always several times higher than what the value was and people actually bought from him. Thing is, there was almost always something wrong or broken with everything he sold. He would also ask for ridiculous amounts of time to pay tying up parts that could have been sold and when he was called out, it was always the seller's fault.

I simply hate having to sell anything old car related. I don't want to hoard a part I don't need, but soon as I would sell one, the next month I need it and there I go! I (used to) love the hunt, the buying of a project worthy of my time, $ and labor. I am not sure if prices for old classics is about greed or ignorance or plain stupidity. But prices vay so much from state to state. I saw a 83 Ram pickup, complete pretty solid, running 2 states away for $800. That same truck would be priced $3500 here and NO ONE would but it>

But like said, selling parts is such a hassle and NO I don't want a scale to weigh the darn thing, box it, get ghosted and so on. Back before the net, people were excited, gald to find a needed part at a fair price.

The classic car market has been so slow for several years now. No one hardly wants to put in the effort and $ for a project a but they want a perfect pretty much done car for less than the cost of the body/paint job done wholesale!!! Like a bud told a guy " Man that car is priced for less than the cost of the body/paiont job,,, you are getting all the rest for FREE!" :BangHead: :steering:
