I had 225/70x14 on my Valiant with no issues.

I wish I had kept it, but who knew back then..........I think I got $1,300 for it. The body was in great shape, but it had a 4.56 Sure Grip, headers with mufflers to the rear axle, a Torker intake manifold, and Ansen Sprint mags (as well as Lakewood traction bars). Far from original.....but it flew. That photo is one of only 4 I have.
 
i've still have a pair of od ball L60-14's hanging out , maybe some E70-14 too . if slip n slide is on the agenda , lol .
 
I did a change to 15x8 rally wheels and went with P265/50r15 tires I did have to put in 1/4 spacers and longer wheel studs from Napa. With 235/60r14 tires on the front great look the stance looks very 70's cool. I will take some pics today and post them. I love how it turned out. Tires from hankook for $125 wheels from summit $109. And it drives great also.
 
I should have noted that I worked 23 years for Goodyear so I new it would be a close fit with just a few mods.
