Gas tank is about ready to go back in the car. Epoxy primed based and clear coated waiting a day or so to cure and will glue the rubber mat on the straps and tank. This is getting to the point that the damn car will still be around when I decompose.

Thats a pretty good idea painting the tank. I had to get a new one but I think I will paint it too.

Just more money to spend but makes me feel better slowing the rust down.
Gluing the rubber down I am trying some 3M spray adhesive to see if that works but might have to get some carpet glue. Any Ideas BP.

That 3m spray adhesive is hard to beat. I bought some bulk carpet runner stuff for my insulator. I'm cheap. I glued it with the 3m stuff. kind of hokey but I think it's going to work. Now that I think about it, its too late to paint it.

A friend gave me the rubber mat or I was going to use tar paper like the factory used so your idea is better than what I was gonna do.
I like 3M adhesive seems to work on just about everything.

Wondering if a rubber mat would hold moisture between it and the tank? Tar paper sounds like a good idea. Just my thoughts.

Not sure on that Mark my thought was when I pulled the tank the tar paper had some rub through marks and the rubber will hold up better. But still I painted the tank so should last longer.

Morning guys, happy Friday,Do what makes you happy  .
Like... swapping a rear wheel bearing in a Subaru? What a rusted mess. Had to buy new bolts and one lateral arm. Started out as a brake job. I'm into it at $400 for brakes and rotors, bearing and what not. Not to mention 2 days of my life. Been driving my truck and the fuel mileage is killing me. The Forester gets 26 mpg. BUT... I'm HAPPY!!!!

You'll be fine Fred. As long as you don't need a bearing. That Subaru is a poor design. I've done several of this design Subaru and it never gets easier. I bought spare bolts this time from Amazon. Dorman brand. They are more than half the price the local dealer quoted me. They wanted over ten bucks just for the nut!!! $38 for the long bolt that freezes in the knuckle and control arms. I thought about using antisieze on all of that stuff but I did that once before and I wound up with an annoying squeak. That was on a customers car. Took it all apart and cleaned up the antisieze and the annoying squeak went away.

Amazing what the dealer can get out of a nut or bolt.
My Mazda is just about ready to turn over to 100,000 miles and thinking of getting rid of it before I have problems just not sure if I really want another car payment.

I'd be driving it into the ground. Hard to sell with that mileage and dealer will give you squat. That just my thinking though.
