It cleared up here also and warmed up to 8 below.
I'm heating the garage up so after shopping is done going to work on the scamp.
I think next winter I will get me a garage heater like yours SLO it sure seemed like yours heats up fast.
It has warmed up now to -14F. I made the conversion for heat in both shops this summer while I could still dig. I keep the shop where the Cuda is at about 45 and I keep the Demon shop at 50 unoccupied or 60 if I am out there. Last month gas bill was right at 80 bucks. Smartest thing I have done in a long time.

That's what temp. I keep mine at most of the time but now that I am putting primer down I have to be at 70*.
You running propane or natural gas?

-4F in balmy southern South Dakota right now. -20F wind chill.
Missed the big snow yesterday, everything stayed north for the most part.
I think it's a stay in the house day.

That's pretty cold for you guys 68original.
I like South Dakota was thinking of moving to the southern part some place warmer than here.

Yeah, not normal, but does happen.
The temp is bearable, but it just hurts when you go outside with wind chills like this.

Are you running radiant heat? The muffler shop I worked at had that and it was fast recovery.

Just Nat gas with a industrial size heater fan suspended at about 9 ft off floor. Heats shop nicely and quickly. I want to say it is 85k BTU

Thinking of doing propane heater myself. On an acreage so natural gas not an option.
What's square footage of your shop?

I don't remember exactly but I think around 1800. I would have to step it off. I know for sure it is to small tho! Since I already had one shop on the property and a garage it is as big as the zoning trolls will allow. I am not in a commercial zone.

Thanks, mine's at 1,600 so pretty comparable. Seems like nothing is ever big enough.
I might do another 20 x 40 for cold storage, mower, lawn tools, etc.
Trying to keep the shop as "car only" but it's tough.

I agree, two large shops and a double garage and our daily drivers sit outside in the snow everyday. Garage has become cold storage and shops are stuffed with "old" Mopars. I suck at space management! I am trying to convince wife to build a large Morton style building and finish one end for domestic bliss and other end shop. Her response and you can insert your own adjectives, was "I am not living in a metal building". And it appears my shops smell like burnt metal and gas and oil. Man perfume I say!

My shop is 28 by 40 and going to add on to it someday for cold storage as well.
You got a great set up for your garages SLO Man perfume is right mine has the aroma of bondo dust and paint. And a few nights ago chili remains.

The combined building is a good idea, but if you are like most of us married folks, you like the separation of "I'll be in the shop for awhile".
And ain't nothing says sexy like gas fumes from cleaning parts and the smell of smoke from a wood burning stove!
"You stink" is usually followed by "Go take a shower" and then "Leave me alone and go to sleep".

That radiant heat is the way to go and that is exactly what a wood stove is but is confined to one corner usually. It heats the objects where the forced air units heat the air. Mine is the overhead tube type with natural gas. It's great for me cause I run a fan alot and it doesn't suck all of the heat out with the air.

I guess I should be glad I'm single but remember those days. LOL

That's the best for painting in and quiet. would like one in my shop but to expensive for my budget for now anyway.

I think they pay for themselves in the long run with natural gas. Maybe not propane.

Only propane around here but I here it's pretty cheap compared to most states. $1.35 was my last fill and summer drops to about 75 cents a gallon.

How are you heating your shop now Fred? I know we talked about this earlier but I done remember.

Wood pellets at 5 bucks a bag and 1 bag last all day if I keep it on low will keep the shop at around 56* in the real cold like today. I was using 2 1500 watt electric room heaters to see how that would work but raised my electric bill from 90 a month to 186. SOOO trash that idea.

I think the ultimate is in floor heat, but shop already here when we bought the place.
I only have 10' sidewalls so trying to keep as much headroom as possible.

Agreed. I have a friend with a 100 by 50 barn insulated in the peak and walls. Floor heat using propane with 16 foot walls. He can open the door pull the combine in and within minutes after closing the door it is T shirt temp.
