Hello. This spring I got my ‘74 Duster out of storage and started working on it again. After swapping out the rear end and replacing the gas tank I finally was able to get it off jack stands. It seems to be setting really low in the back now. I’m thinking the springs are bad but don’t know for sure. I took a couple of pictures of the rear of the spring. Would anyone help out with advice on if the springs are bad or if it’s normal and that I just need to put shackles on it to raise the rear end so my 15x8’s will clear the fender well openings. Thanks

How about a picture of the cars rear ride height? From the picture provided it look like they have an inverted arc. They definitely aren't smiling like they should be! 65

I can get pictures and measurements tonight when I get home from work.

If you decide to get new springs, especially if you order them with plus 1 or 2” it might be worth ordering a set of adjustable front hangers to go with them. I ordered plus 1” springs from ESPO and the combination of new springs and the extra inch set the back end up a lot higher than I wanted. But with the adjustable hangers I was able to pop the eye bolt up an inch at the front and take some of the height out.

Suspension is the area that I have the least knowledge about. I definitely wouldn’t mind having a higher ride height. Thank you for sharing information about the extra ride height, I’ll definitely keep it in mind

from this angle it looks like the springs are slap *** wore out. they seem to almost arch upward.

and longer shackles are rarely the answer.
I was thinking that but I don’t know much about suspension. I plan on getting pictures of the ride height and measurements tonight when I get home from work and post them

I agree with the extra one to two inch Arch on a 6 leaf XHD spring pack I got mine from general KC spring and they were very nice set American steel at the time but that was about 4 years ago.

here's a diagram illustrating the correct shackle positioning.

more than likely tho, them sprAngs is blowed out.

used to be, re-arching was an option but with the prices these days it's not really viable in that a new set of springs is nearly the same cost.

tHiNk of tHe AxLe tUbEs!!!

*clutches pearls*

Not why i said that at all.. i over-torqued mine and the rear end wouldn't settle, as in 2+" too high and i couldn't even bounce or move it.. i thought they had sent me the wrong springs. Never had it happen before.. the difference when torqued properly was crazy

i know, i know. i was just being facetious.

Now it's a 67 dart not a duster so the height of the rear wheel well opening might be different.

58 years and pretty flat. They are 6 leaf HD springs

Those springs are shot. Replace them.
