great, are these the ones they have to buy back?

No, not all from a list I saw. It didn't include my '05 1500. It only has a loose pinion nut and air bag recall currently on it. They need to issue a rust recall too!:evil3:

I cant find where it says they have to buy back ALL 2009-2012 trucks. The way I read it is they can buy back a vehicle that has not been fixed in the original recall. And if you look carefully at the list provided by krazykuda, a hefty portion is from the Daimler era when they were gutting the hell out of Chrysler but most people forget about that and complain about Fiat.

This is from page 13 of the consent order found at safercar.gov.

"FCA US shall amend its Defect Information Report (Part 573 Report) for Recalls 13V-038, 13V-527 and 13V-529, to revise the description ofFCA US's program for remedying the defect. Specifically, the revision will include an alternative to the repair remedy with respect to unremedied vehicles in each of these campaigns. The alternative remedy will be an offer to eligible owners to refund the purchase price paid by the first purchaser of the vehicle for purposes other than resale, less a reasonable allowance for depreciation, and not including the cost of modifications made to the vehicle after first retail sale ("the Purchase Price")." Yes, many of these problems are from the "german empire era", but they got in MORE trouble because they have taken over a year and do not have the parts available to fix the vehicles, so that part is the Fiat management dragging ***....

They got the "take your money" part down pat, but they need a little work on fixing the defects in a reasonable time part....

It's probably just going to be a continuation of the recalls that were in place when I last worked for FCA. For the trucks, it was mostly a loose pinion nut here and there and some tie rod issues. The 1500 just get a pair of fresh outer ends, and the 2500-5500 get a new pitman arm and all of the tie rod gear. Since the Rams have been selling like mad over the last few years, the parts distributors have probably been going shithouse to produce parts for both the recall vehicles and the new ones coming down the assembly line.

Then the Jeeps have to get an extra armor plate on the tanks and the airbag controllers on a bunch of the cars were failing.

Any other weird issues? I was actually thinking of getting a Ram in the next year or so.

My 07 Ram is on there. I wonder if Daimler has any responsiblity for any of this, since they owned the company during some of this???

The recalls have been done on my Ram. They replaced ball joints and center link and all tie rod ends twice. I never noticed any driving problems but they said it needed it. I think first time put same factory parts. Second trip I hope they put updated parts:?:. I do have one open recall on diesel heater whatever the hell that is

same on my 12' cummins, it's a harness for the fuel filter housing that heats the fuel. they say it may smoke and cause a problem :D

On my 98 Grand Cherokee, they were using trailer hitches to strengthen the rear if they didn't already have one. The hitch will help protect the gas tank.

My dad ordered ours with trailer tow, so we're ok....

Both my drivers are on the list. My Ram and Aspen

Some are just a recall
The Trucks are from what I have read will be a mandatory BUY BACK

And you cannot keep your vehicle either.
I understand the main problem with the trucks is the steering-(Death wobble) and they given a chance to fix them and could not.

The problem: Those models were recalled two years ago for steering issues or loose rear axles. Either problem could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. To make matters worse, Chrysler didn't make enough replacement parts or failed to provide "effective" parts after the initial recall, said Gordon Trowbridge, spokesman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

What to do: Whether you bought your vehicle new or used, bring it into a dealer. They're required to buy the car back from you at "fair market value," and to throw in a 10% premium. You can walk away with the all that money in cash, or use the money toward purchasing a new vehicle.

My understand is the buy back is on trucks that have not had the recall done on them. They will play hell taking my truck! I sure they would want to give $25k and it would cost me $65k to replace it. Thanks but no thanks!:finga:

Exactly! My truck has almost 400,000 miles on it and has a new transmission, clutch, upgraded the fuel injectors and injector pump and some other goodies plus new tire's. I love my ol' truck!

It all depends on how the consent order reads that given to Fiat.

But what happens if your insurance company will no longer insure your trucks?

I posted the consent order, post #6 above. The buyback section is on page 13 and 14.
