looking at a 03 5.7

got a chance to get a 03 5.7 with the harness and ecm (1000 bucks)
also still has the 5sp manual trans
from what i can tell this is not the best choice
is this true

The computer is not desireable, but the engine is good.

Yeah, for the most part all of the engines are the same internally. The earlier ones have the different coil and spark plug wire setup that some don't care for as much. The really early ones (like 03), tend to have more issues with valve springs breaking, but those are pretty cheap to replace if you do it before one breaks.

BUY IT!

The 5 speed manual (NV4500) is worth almost 1k by itself.

The 03 is a good engine, I have one in my garage.

Get yourself an 04 ecm and harness for the swap as the 03 only has one 02 sensor for both banks which will not run correctly on a dual exhaust setup.
