Purchased a 72 340 Duster with a built motor & one tore down. Problem is that the one tore down did not have the main caps.Where can I find these ?

likely used & maybe 273/318 ones would be the same (not sure but good chance). You will need the line bore to be checked after mocking them up. Might be NOS or good used ones on eBay, not likely (for NOS) but never hurts to check

I have an extra set from a 318LA block. Yours for the cost of shipping. Just PM me.

I'm not 100% sure that 273/318 caps are the same.

They should work, the cranks are interchangeable, so the mains are the same size for all 273-318-340...

I did find that some caps are a little taller than others, but that may be the ones for the 360...

However they should work if re-machined for the new block and the proper bolts...

the 273/318 caps will fit, they are shorter versus 340 caps. have to use 273/318 bolts to make them work. go to a machine shop and see if they have some caps. most shops save main caps for this reason. or find a blown up engine and rob caps off it. still have to align bore mains.

Thanks Perf. That was how I remembered it. The bore size and bolt size and placement are the same, but the cap is a little weaker (thinner) and if you use a windage tray you want to check the clearance on the crank.

I've used windage trays on stock 318's with no problem...

Me too. That doesn't you shouldn't at least check before the pan goes on.

I have a set off my 340 im not using I went to BCR steel caps. I will sell them to you with the bolts.
