Loose column shift

My column shift is very loose and can slip into gears or out of gears. Is there any way i can tighten it up or access it. I've removed the steering wheel and removed mostly everything. Thanks.

You'll just have to look for wear on all the moving pieces. Steel items can be welded up and filed down to fit but the pot metal pieces might have to be replaced if they're badly worn. If everything is worn, it might be easier to just get a replacement column.

I would look at the spring that keeps the shifter from being loose/wobbly. How is the adjustment going through the gears? That can be adjusted by a bolt in the linkage under the car that goes to the transmission.
