lost spark

Lose the orange box. They were made for drag racing and weren't designed to run more than 15 or 20 minutes at a time. A generic parts store cheapie will do a better job in an everyday street car...
 
I don't think that is a high end model, I do have another one from oreilly, it was less than 20$ and it's from a 1976 225.
 
The 2 sheet metal screws that mount the orange box in the post #1 photo are the only way it gets the ground that it needs. If any rust, no ground and no spark. Best to run a dedicated ground wire, and scrape the paint on the box.
 
I guess I did not update, it ended up being a bad coil after the ballast resistor...checked the voltage and the coil was on the 12v side...not the 9v side, I had never changed it, I guess it was like that from the previous owner. God only knows how long it had been like that. Switched it and put in a new coil and good as new.
