ok so ive come to the point/realization that i need a really low intake for my project. it is a 360 engine. and due to hood clearance issues, i have to pretty much go as long as i can go. whats the normal carb height not including breather? who has the lowest single plane intake on the market? i will try and post pics in a little bit of my prediciment. my only other option ins to move motor back an inch or two, but thats a pain i dont want to do.

im not running one now. im coming up on the final stretch on the project. i tried an old 318 2bbl on a stock 2bbl intake but it was too high. then i tried an old quadrajunk on it too to get an idea. both were about an inch too tall, this is with no aircleaner.

I'd say a Weiand X-celerator is probably the lowest single plane, but if the stock 2bbl stuff is too tall, you're going to have problems.

its not going in an abody, or a mopar for that matter. if it wont work how it is now with an aftermarket intake, then i have to move it back, if i moved it back it will clear my hood scoop (will get pics tomorrow) so wont be a problem.

how tall is that intake?

Well, an aluminum intake that is lower than the norm is a Holley STREET DOM. There almost a no rise intake.

The STRIP Dom and other single planes are out because there taller than a 2bbl intake.

OR the early 273/318 single plane intakes. Those are extremely flat. You could balance a bubble from a level on those runners and not have but a 1/8 rise from the intake ports top.

OH, there square bore intakes.

ok well it looks like i will be moving it back an inch or two for hood clearance since i have very very limited options. i will have 4.10 gears and an auto. should i steer clear of certain manifolds?

Is there a factory low profile hood scoop that you are trying to keep it all under?

I went out to the shop with a ruler and made some measurements for you. I realize you said single plane but I measured them all anyway. Lol.

Stock 360 4bbl: 4"
Edelbrock Performer: 4 1/4"
Weiand Accelerator: 5"
Edelbrock RPM Airgap: 5 3/4"

Hope it helps.

ok got a few more pics. i only have one uploaded so ill post the others as i get them uploaded. i moved the motor back as far as i could go and still have room for dist movement. i think im going to have to modify my hood scoop to get a carb/breather under there.

What car is this?

that one, but very very dirty.

87 mazda rx7 turbo 2 (how i have the cowl in the hood)

ok after moving the motor back i remeasured the clearance, turns out the carb is almost 5 inches tall, so i should be good with a decent single plane, and either an eddy or a holly carb. i read they are about 3.5 inches tall?

ok thanks guys for all the help. i just bought a holley street dominator. ill probably get a 750 carb from holley or eddy to go with it. i also think i solved my hood issue..its going to give me LOTS of room..probably even enough to go BB later if i decide to.

if you guys had a choice. what would you go with. demon, holley or eddy?

I have the B engine version of the Holley Street Dom on my 400 and I have used a T-Q and a Fed-Mog 750 Carter AFB on top.

The Modern AFB's are very nice and what I would suggest unless you can get a good T-Q and set it up right. Ethier way, use a stock thick gasket under the carb and not the paper thin after market gaskets.

The single plane has an excellent mid and top end range while the small plenum and thin runners help keep torque up well down low. It works nice with the T-Q.
