magnetic pickup

my magnetic pickup wiggle loosely in the dist.would this give me a high rpm miss at the end of the traps and in the burnout box?the car also quit me last race.would restart running rough then die like shutting the key off.i am running a cable drive mopar dist.where do i get the new pickup for this.is it for a points dist,or electronic.this is converted to electronic.

Yes, the gap will change and all kinds of thing can happen.

Make sure the bushings in the distributor are not worn out also.

Make sure the bushings in the distributor are not worn out also.

The specification is 0.000 to 0.003" sideplay (the service limit is 0.006"). The reluctor should have a gap of 0.008" (use a non-magnetic feeler gauge to check/adjust it).

Closely examine the reluctor and pickup for cracks,because theres a chance they got hammered. Could be the reluctor is chipped as well.
